What the app does

Celestia LAN Camera lets you deliberately share live video from your Android phone to browsers on your local network. You start sharing, grant camera permission, and give the phone’s sharing code to the people you authorize. They can view video, change camera settings and save still images.

Camera use, including in the background

The camera continues while sharing is active, including when the app is in the background or the phone screen is off. A foreground-service notification provides a Stop action when notifications are allowed. You can always tap Stop sharing in the app. Sharing also ends after 12 hours, on force-stop, reboot, or if Android terminates the app. It never starts on boot.

Information handled

The app processes camera images and camera capabilities to display and stream video. It uses local IP addresses to provide connection addresses and process incoming requests. Recent connection attempts are kept in memory to limit code guessing. Sharing codes, browser authorization tokens and camera settings are held in memory.

We do not add analytics, advertising identifiers, user accounts, microphone capture, location tracking, cloud uploads, or automatic recordings.

Where information goes

Camera video and control data travel directly between your phone and the authorized browser over HTTPS using TLS 1.2 or 1.3. The publisher does not receive this stream. There is no publisher server relaying your camera.

Any person you give the code to who can reach the phone on the local network may view and control it. Authorized viewers can save images or otherwise record what they see; we cannot erase those copies.

Connection security

The phone creates its own TLS certificate and stores its private key in Android Keystore. A browser may warn that this local certificate is not publicly trusted.

Before entering the code, compare the browser certificate’s SHA-256 fingerprint with Connection help in the app. Do not continue if they differ. Encryption does not establish the phone’s identity unless you verify the certificate.

Use trusted networks and do not forward the camera port to the internet.

Storage and retention

Live frames are briefly buffered in memory and replaced as new frames arrive. The app does not save a video library.

Browser sessions expire within 12 hours. Stop sharing or New code revokes all sessions; Disconnect revokes the current browser session. The browser stores an HTTP-only secure authorization cookie for at most 12 hours. Clear site data in the browser to remove its cookies.

Restarting sharing creates a new code. Network attempt records are short-lived in-memory counters, reset when sharing ends.

The per-install TLS identity remains on the phone across sessions; uninstalling the app removes its app-owned identity. Browser-saved images remain until you or their owner delete them.

Permissions

Camera is needed for live capture. Network access and network/Wi-Fi state support local connections. The camera foreground service, notification permission, and power/Wi-Fi locks support sharing while the screen is off.

No microphone, contacts, location, photos/media library, account, or storage permission is requested.

You may revoke permissions in Android Settings; camera sharing cannot run without camera permission.

Your choices

Only start sharing when you intend to share. Give the code only to trusted viewers. Use New code to disconnect everyone and revoke the old code. Stop sharing ends the server and camera.

No account is created, so there is no account-deletion process. Respect the privacy and consent of anyone visible in the camera.

Support and external services

Opening an email or contact link uses your chosen email app or browser. Information you choose to send to support is received to answer your request and is not part of the camera stream. These external services have their own privacy practices.

Do not include sharing codes or private camera images in support requests unless you intentionally choose to disclose them.
